Spanish tomato grower Cualin Quality once again chooses glass and KUBO

Cualin Quality has once again chosen a glass greenhouse from KUBO. The 8.4-hectare expansion in Antas, Almería, follows a deliberate comparison between growing under plastic and growing under glass. The Spanish tomato grower has experience with both greenhouse systems and once again assessed which solution best fits its cultivation strategy for this next phase of growth. The outcome: glass again. And KUBO again.

With the new project, Cualin will expand to more than 45 hectares of high-tech glass greenhouses. It will be the company’s eighth high-tech greenhouse and the fifth project that Cualin has realised together with KUBO.

Why glass again?

In southern Spain, growing under plastic is still the most common approach. Cualin has been taking a different path for years. The company focuses on year-round production of premium tomatoes and invests in a growing environment that can be controlled with precision.

For Cualin, the choice comes down to the level of control the company wants to achieve in its cultivation process. A high-tech glass greenhouse provides the foundation for climate control, water management, automation and other technical installations to operate as one integrated system. It is precisely this combination that fits the way Cualin wants to produce its premium tomatoes.

The decision is based on careful consideration and a clear long-term vision. That is why, for this expansion, we have once again chosen glasshouse cultivation, further strengthening a production model that reflects our commitment to sustainability, efficiency and the consistent quality our customers expect from us throughout the year.

“We make decisions with the long term in mind. This expansion reflects our confidence in a growing model that is fully aligned with our vision for the future and the evolving demands of our market. At the same time, it allows us to build further on the experience, expertise and strong partnership we have developed with KUBO over the years.”

Building on a long-standing partnership

KUBO and Cualin Quality have been working together for many years on the development of the growing site in Antas. KUBO has previously delivered several glass greenhouse projects at the site. The new expansion therefore represents the next step in a long-standing partnership.

Mark Hoogendoorn, Regional Sales Manager at KUBO says: “We believe it says a great deal that an experienced grower like Cualin is choosing glass again. They know their crop, their climate and the different greenhouse systems. This decision is based on what works for their business in the long term. We are proud to have the opportunity to work together with them again to make this next step a reality.”

The new greenhouse will be equipped with technology for climate control, water management, process automation and crop monitoring, among other applications. In addition, during the 2026–2027 season, Cualin is working on its first project involving supplementary lighting on an area of 5,000 square metres.

With this expansion, Cualin is continuing its growth strategy. Once again, the company is deliberately choosing glass as the foundation for controlled and efficient cultivation.
