ESG Insights 2025 at KUBO: Progress, Choices and Collaboration

Written by Bart Bossink | Jan 20, 2026 7:00:00 AM

2025 shows me what we can achieve at KUBO when focus, craftsmanship and collaboration come together. Across Environmental, Social and Governance, we have taken clear steps forward this year. Not as ambitions on paper, but as tangible progress shaped by the daily efforts of many colleagues and partners. I would like to share where we stand today, what is moving in the right direction and where our attention remains.

Environmental

We are on track for a 42 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2022, fully aligned with our SBTi target. In Scope 3, we also expect further reductions in 2025. This takes time and close cooperation across the value chain, but the first results are becoming visible.

Our solar installation in Monster is now operating at full capacity, and we are exploring battery storage options. These are important steps towards our goal of using 100 percent renewable electricity across all KUBO entities by 2030.

Our vehicle fleet continues to transition as well. Seventy-one percent of company cars are now electric or hybrid, with a clear ambition to reach 100 percent by 2030. In Monster, energy-saving measures with the greatest impact have been initiated. Some have already been implemented across all KUBO buildings, while others are still underway.

Progress is also visible in our products and partnerships. Five customers are now participating in the Underground Forest programme, a collaboration we started this year. Ninety percent of our products are modular, recyclable and reusable. This is supported by the ISO Tomato Footprint certification from Anthesis. Ultra-Clima® greenhouses use 18.5 percent less energy, have a 25.4 percent lower CO₂ footprint and require 92 percent less CO₂ dosing than Venlo greenhouses, without compromising production.

A validation project with Anthesis and Wageningen University confirms this picture. Tomatoes grown in Ultra-Clima® greenhouses show the lowest footprint of all analysed cultivation systems in the Netherlands. This gives confidence, but also reinforces our responsibility to continue improving.

To mark KUBO’s 80th anniversary, colleagues collectively chose a sustainable gift through Regreener. This resulted in the protection of 80 hectares of Amazon rainforest in Ecuador and the planting of 80 mangrove trees in Brazil. A modest gesture, with meaningful impact.

Social

On the social side, 2025 saw the introduction of our bicycle scheme and the completion of the employee satisfaction survey. The NPS score will follow shortly. Through the TopFit Programme, we continue to encourage health and vitality, with a continued focus on maintaining a low absenteeism rate of around 3 percent.

We also took the first step towards Safety Ladder level 3. This is not an endpoint, but the start of more structured and consistent attention to safety in our daily operations.

Governance

In governance, important foundations have been laid. In 2025, the whistleblower policy, Anti-Bribery and Corruption policy, and the employee Code of Conduct were implemented. Training programmes has started in 2026 to ensure these policies are embedded in practice.

Clear steps have also been taken with suppliers. The Supplier Code of Conduct has been introduced, with an expected coverage of 90 percent in 2026. The Supplier Risk Score Card is live, and new ESG Supplier Assessments have been developed. These tools help us engage in more focused dialogue and gain better insight into risks within the supply chain.

A moment worth reflecting on

At the beginning of December, we officially received confirmation that the Frövi II project was successfully assessed in the EU Taxonomy audit. This type of audit is among the most stringent when it comes to demonstrating a fully sustainable value chain within Sustainability-Linked Loans.

Over several months, we collected extensive evidence on material traceability and our supplier chain, together with colleagues and partners. That this intensive effort resulted in a positive assessment from our customer Frövi / Selected Group is something to be proud of. It was also a valuable learning experience, as it has shown us how we can be better prepared for similar audits in the future.

Together, we continue to show that sustainability at KUBO is not a promise, but a daily practice. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this in 2025. For a Growing World.
